LPI 360 Assessment
Learn More About the LPI 360 Assessment

Leadership Practices Inventory® (LPI®)

Over three million people have taken their first steps towards their personal leadership best with the Leadership Practices Inventory® (LPI®), a 360-degree assessment tool by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. Based on The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® model, the 360-degree assessment illuminates both the effectiveness of your leaders and the level of commitment, engagement, and satisfaction of those that follow. No matter where your leaders are along their leadership development journey, the LPI will support the important work you do in developing, nurturing, and empowering your emerging leaders.

Instructions to Take the LPI 360Ⓡ Assessment

The LPI 360 has two major components: your self-assessment and the assessment of observers (e.g. current and past managers, peers, direct reports).

To make the assessment process as convenient as possible, you and your observers will take it online. The assessment consists of rating how often each of the 25 leadership behaviors are demonstrated by the leader. The scales range from 1 (almost never) to 10 (almost always).

The assessment requires about 15-20 minutes of uninterrupted time to complete. If you are participating in one of our leadership development programs, you need to complete the assessment at least 2 days prior to your scheduled coaching session.

It’s important to note that the only people who see your assessment results are you and the coach who will debrief your results.

To that end, please answer the questions as objectively as possible so the results are an accurate reflection of who you are.

Step 1. Contact the Institute

Whether you want to take the LPI for yourself or have a group of leaders particiopate, we will work with you to design a program that fits your needs.

Step 2. Send Us The Leader Information

You will send us the names and email addresses of each of the leaders who will be participating in the program. We will send instructions to each of them.

Step 3. Contact Observers

Each participating leader will contact observers (current and past supervisors, peers, direct reports). We will provide you with an email template that can be used to let the observers know what to do.

Step 4. Leaders and Observers Answer the Questions

Each leader and observer will answer the questions. Reminders will be sent out for those who have not completed the answers by a specified date.

Step 5. Results Will Be Shared By a Coach

The results of the 360-degree process will be shared with each leader by a coach. The coach will work with you to put together an action plan based on your observations.
